Biography
Sh. Hira Lal Sibal started practice in the year 1937 at District Courts, Lahore. After partition, he shifted his practice to Amritsar after which he moved to Shimla before finally settling at Chandigarh. He was designated as Senior Advocate in the year 1961. Mr. Sibal was elected as the President of the High Court Bar Association in 1964 and 1975. He was appointed Advocate General of Punjab (1968-1969 and 1970-1972) and then of Haryana from 4.2.1985 to 11.7.1986 and from 24.6.1991 to 10.5.1996. In the year 1994, he was conferred with the 'Living legends of Law' award by the International Bar Association. He was awarded the 'Punjab Rattan' Award in 2003 and has also been honored with "Padma Bhushan" by the President of India on 29/3/2006. He is considered the living legend of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar and is admired for his diction and masterly presentation of the most complex legal cases.
